"You almost forget you are studying English"

We came to Kinshasa with a research-proven direct instruction curriculum that avoided the cost of printed books.  But our students didn't like it. We spent a lot of time and energy trying to make it work, but it became clear that a change was necessary. Our students wanted more professional content and kept asking for books and discs.

We looked at many options, narrowed them down to a few finalists, and then reviewed them with focus groups comprised of former and current ALI students.  The consensus choice was the "Life" curriculum from National Geographic Learning/Cengage.

We introduced Life in July 2018 to enthusiastic responses from students and teachers.  It has helped our sales team bring back former students and is a big contributor to our positive "word-of-mouth" enrollment growth.  We often hear remarks like "the things in the book are so interesting that we almost forget we are studying English."

The NGL/Cengage staff in London have been very supportive in helping us introduce their curriculum into DR Congo. We are discussing an exclusivity arrangement with them, which will make ALI synonymous with National Geographic in the entire country.

Part of the capital now being raised will replenish our revolving book purchase fund to avoid the cash crunch that arises when we have to order books a month before students will pay for them.
